Unmanned Ship From Sierra Leone Stranded in Central Vietnam
Binta Koroma An unmanned Sierra Leonean vessel was on Friday December 1st found stranded in the southern parts of Cu Lao Cham Island in Quang Nam’s Hoi An City.
The ship, named King Rich was reportedly carrying liquid, weighing almost 14,000 tonns and there was nobody onboard when it was found.
According to the Cu Lao Cham border guard station in Hoi An City, the vessel spanning 132 m in length and 21 m in width, was designed to carry liquid.
It was reported that when it got swept to shore, impacts with rocks damaged it, which may have caused it to sink.
It was further reported that the Cu Lao Cham authorities could not gain access to the vessel to determine what exactly it was carrying and how much of it had left, because of the rough seas at Cu Lao Cham.
However, the Border guards have informed the Quang Nam Maritime Administration who predicted possible sinking of the ship together with its fuel leaked out.
As of now, the ship is being guarded by the border guards and local militia members of Tan Hiep Commune.
