Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Alpha Kanu, has dismissed claims that former President Ernest Bai Koroma snubbed him during the 69th ECOWAS Summit in Lungi, describing a viral video circulating on social media as “doctored” and influenced by artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking during a recent media engagement, Kanu stated that it is “impossible” for the former president to ignore him, insisting that the widely shared footage does not present the full sequence of events.
According to him, the video captured a moment where both men turned away, omitting the part where they greeted each other.
“They did not show the part where Ernest shook my hand and tapped me on the back. They only showed the part where I turned my back, and he turned his back to speak to another person. That is all AI,” Kanu said.
He further revealed that their interaction was cordial, noting that former President Koroma addressed him as “Mr Khan,” which he described as his pet name, while he referred to the former leader as “Ernesto.”
Kanu also stated that he would not respond to critics, whom he accused of not having the country’s best interests at heart. He maintained that former President Koroma was pleased to return to Sierra Leone and is ready to reconnect with the people.
“Ernest Koroma is happy to have come home, and I am happy he has come home. He is ready to mix with his people,” he added.
He concluded by criticising detractors, saying some individuals “are made for hell and will go there.”
Kanu’s comments come amid ongoing public debate triggered by the viral video, which some critics have interpreted as showing former President Koroma snubbing him during the high-profile regional summit.
