Activists Host Workshop to Boost Media Advocacy Against Female Genital Mutilation
Umu Bah The Forum Against Harmful Practices (FAHP) has organized a one-day workshop at the Buxton Church Hall on Charles Street in Freetown to promote the use of social media to amplify voices calling for an end to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Sierra Leone.
The workshop, titled “Using Social Networks to Amplify the Voices of Survivors and Stakeholders for the Abandonment of FGM in Sierra Leone,” brought together Tribal Heads from the Western Area, teachers, bloggers, and other key stakeholders.
Participants discussed how digital platforms might help the movement to stop FGM by increasing exposure of survivor stories and stakeholder views.
The program clarified the importance of collaboration among community leaders, educators, and internet influencers in driving public discussions about FGM.
