Seventeen years old Kabba Fofanah popularly called Plastic Boy (for his profession) has on a post blew hot to the Government of Sierra Leone for  attempting to kill talented innovators in Sierra Leone.

Plastic Boy is a Sierra Leonean innovator who attends at the Door International Academy, Kenema in SSS3 Science faculty recycles plastic waste into pavers and bricks for building houses.

The reduction of plastic waste is crucial for both humans and the environment. Emerging technologies provide a wide range of solutions, including the breakdown of plastics that were previously unrecyclable and the use of chemical processes to transform post-consumer plastics into alternatives to fossil fuels. These and similar technologies have a huge positive impact on the environment.

It is undoubtedly certain that reclining used plastics and other materials have immense benefits in society. It conserves energy, reduces air and water pollution, reduces greenhouse gases, and conserves natural resources.

Among other benefits of recycling plastic are: Reduced petroleum use. It’s estimated up to 40 percent of oil consumption could be reduced through recycling plastic waste. That’s 16.3 barrels of oil per ton of recycled plastic. Recycling plastic also reduces landfill use. Fewer plastics in landfills means less emission of common landfill gases like carbon dioxide and methane. Both gases affect local communities through the ground and air, causing public health problems and environmental damage etc.

With huge impacts of the process to humanity, and on the other hand the Government’s mindset of not providing support to young innovators in the country, Fofanah Kabba has hit heavily on the Government for not providing him the support to achieve his dream.

According to Plastic Boy, he has had countless interviews on different radio stations in the provinces including famous Sierra Leone Broadcast Corporation (SLBC) in Freetown about his project and its impacts to society but none has rendered support to help him achieve his dream.

Among top politicians measured were: the Mayor of Freetown City Council (FCC) Yvonne Aki-sawyer OBI, Minister of Trade and Industry to provide a platform for the Plastic Boy, but we’re alleged to have done little or nothing at all.

With curiosity and many questions to ask over this negligence of the government to young Sierra Leonean innovators, Plastic Boy asked why the government is yet to look to the impacts he creates to the environment and also employment he will create to youths of the country if they choose to support him.

“I am saving the Environment from Trash, diseases, Flooding and I will even create job for youths in the country…” Plastic Boy disclosed.

On his conclusive part of the post, he urged the government of Sierra Leone and other Non-governmental organisations to encourage innovative thinkers and Entrepreneurs as they play a great role if Sierra Leone is to develop. He furthered that despite all the promises which are yet to be materialised, he still hopes prays to the Government and non-governmental organisations to help him achieve his dream.
