As the year comes to an end, it is now time for stocktaking and self-assessment more so when people are aspiring into meeting new resolutions in the ensuing year.

Salone Times Editorial Team has come up with its list of the 5 worst performing ministers in the current dispensation. This assessment is purely based on the editorial judgement on practical issues across the country.

Minister of Trade And Industry: This is the second year, the Minister of Trade is making it into the list of the worst performing ministers. With the global recession and inflation in the country, it is expected that this minister will continue to make in the list of doom.

This is because the cost of food in the country is putting a heavy burden on families – while more Sierra Leoneans have been sunk into abject poverty. Little or nothing is being done by the Ministry of Trade to ensure that they open Sierra Leone to serious investment rather most of the local industries in the country are either closing or on the verge of closing. People believed Minister of Trade Hinga Sandy has been doing poorly and should be sacked.

Minister of Agriculture: The Minister of Agriculture Abubakarr Karim will go down in history as the worst Agriculture Minister ever in the history of Sierra Leone. Majority of Sierra Leoneans are going to bed on empty stomachs while there are arable lands in the country. It is believed that the Ministry of Agriculture has so many projects on their shelves rather than implementing them for the benefit of the people on the field. Farmers in the country are struggling to get resources to ensure that they meet planting season. Also, Sierra Leoneans are concerned about Tomabom Rice Project which is yet to yield a dividend in four years.

Minister of Transport and Aviation: Transportation seems to be a parental problem for Sierra Leoneans who want to move from one place to another. There are limited investments in the transportation sector as there are very few government busses to ease the problem of transportation. The Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) is in a coma as most of the buses are either not in working or have become scarp at the SLRTC Compound.

The Minister of Transport and Aviation has been in that position for almost 4 yrs now but it seems that there is nothing new he could come up with in that Ministry.

Minister of Political And Public Affairs: One would have thought the Ministry of Political and Public Affairs would have been in charge of talking to Sierra Leone about peace and cohesion when there were so many threats on social media before the August 10 Violent Protest which killed and injured hundreds of Sierra Leoneans including policemen. Thus, even where this ministry and minister could have made themselves relevant, they allowed the opportunity to slip through their fingers. It is the belief that the Ministry is not relevant to the development of Sierra Leone.

Minister of Sports: Ibrahim Nyelenkeh is the Minister of sports but he has spent all his focus and energy on football ad for that reason the Ministry of Sports has been a stumbling block to the development of other sports in the country. Minister Nylenkeh has been coming down the pecking order of excellence and slowly sliding into the abyss of failures. Nyelenkeh recently superintended over the national Football Team sneaking out of the country with $US200,000 to play two friendly matches for which they managed to play Algeria Team B in Dubai. At the same time, they are yet to account for the remaining amount of the money. For his inability to develop sports in the country, young people believed that Minister Nyelenkeh is unfit to continue as Minister of Sports.
