As if they aren’t reading the lips of political parties leaders in Sierra Leone for them to be able to understand that diaspora are not welcomed home and their votes has nothing to do with their political parties coming to power, but all they need from them is their hard earned dollars and pound Sterlings.

Or are they deliberately refusing to accept the fact because of tribalism or regionalism? The new slogan, “We na Northwesterner or we na Southeasterner” as been propagated by some highly ‘educated fools’ in their quest to gain political appointments?.

The diaspora should know by now that their votes are not needed back home and should therefore begin to think twice about what concrete steps or concerted efforts they should put together to break this vicious attempt by these political exclusionists.

The late President Dr. Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabba of blessed memories is on record as the man who expunged the draconic citizenship law which banned our brothers and sisters from aquring dual citizenships.

According to President Kabba, Sierra Leoneans who acquired citizenship from another country did so in the best interest to better the lives of themselves, families and the country in general.

In the 2002 and 2007 presidential election campaigns, former President Ernest Koroma made a strong commitment that if he becomes president of Sierra Leone he will abolish the 2 Sim law from our law books. But as they say, the rest is all history now as he is now former and the law is still present in our books.

Then came President Julius Maada Bio with high expectations from the diaspora that what the former President has failed to accomplish he will definitely accomplish that. But unfortunately, nothing seems to have happened in his first term of presidency. Now that he is in his second and final term, many are cautiously optimistic that he wouldn’t go without expungement of the draconic law.

Back home, the credibility of the diaspora has been dampening due to some inciting and hate speeches they’re posting on various social media platforms on an hourly basis. To justify the allegations, the EU mentioned that in their post elections report on Sierra Leone.

Meanwhile, as we enter 2024 with optimism and high hopes that HE. President Bio will treat the issue of diaspora with utmost seriousness it deserves, so also should our diaspora ‘social media politicians or bloggers’ focus all their energies and resources to lobby the government to abolish the 2 SIM law from our law books.

They should stop spending their hard earned Almighty dollars and pound Sterlings on political parties because of tribalism or regionalism.
