The Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), the oldest political party in the country, out of which APC and many other offshoot parties have sprouted, that prides itself on democracy and good governance as evident in the past SLPP Governments of the Sir Milton Margai, Pa Kabba and now President Bio is the best to rule Sierra Leone.
SLPP is the only country that is good for this country because we believe that the lack of internal democracy is often the cause of the decline and downfall of many political parties in Africa, like what is currently happening with dictator EBK led APC party.
Unlike the self-centered and dictatorial APC, because of our democratic credential, that is why across the length and breadth of the country, in all constituencies, district and regions keenly contested lower-level elections were conducted by the party organs in the spirit of government by the people, for the people and of the people.
The essence of holding internal party elections is because political parties in a democracy should function as schools of democracy and should therefore themselves be democratic, a thing that is lacking in the NDA of APC.
SLPP we can hold our heads high because we pride ourselves as being a party that is guided by laid down constitutional rules and regulations that can only be changed following established and recognized procedures.
It could be recalled that the peaceful struggle for and attainment of Independence was made possible by savvy and dexterous leadership of the SLPP under Sir Milton Margai.
The progressive path to sustainable development that the SLPP administration of Sir Milton Margai fashioned for Sierra Leone was interrupted by over two decades of a disastrous political dictatorship (1978-1992) that created the foundation for state failure and a brutal civil war (that lasted for a decade.
Citizens could attest to the fact that the best moments of Sierra Leone have been under the SLPP administrations – past and present. Apart from gaining Independence for our country, it is the SLPP government that ended the eleven years bloody internecine strife that claimed the lives of thousands of our innocent compatriots.
It is the SLPP that created the most enviable and viable institutions that this country can boast of. From the Sierra Leone Ports Authority to the National Social Security and Insurance Trust to name but a few, the SLPP has always shown a belief in building strong institutions. These and many more are lasting legacies of SLPP administrations.
It is therefore no secret that the current President Bio led SLPP like the late Sir Milton Margai and Pa Kabba’s administration is on the right track and set to hoist us to the pinnacle of success.
With the SLPP, under President Bio, quality education is assured. The fight against corruption has won Sierra Leone international admiration. We are rebranding our country’s image internationally. The world is looking towards Sierra Leone for leadership in the fight against COVID-19.
We are building strong institutions. We are committed to the rule of law and the Independence of the judiciary. We are accountable and transparent. We promised and delivered press freedom. Gender equality is becoming a reality. Youth empowerment/employment is assured under the SLPP. We reject violence and are committed to peace and national cohesion.
Because SLPP, especially this one led by President Bio is the only party good to rule Sierra Leone that is why the joy and euphoria felt by the thousands of new teachers, soldiers, police and civil servants that the new direction has provided with pin codes to earn a living and provide for themselves and their loved ones cannot be measured.
