According to a press release from its Secretariat, the All People’s Congress, Sierra Leone’s main opposition party will on Monday 17th April 2023 elect Candidates that will bear the party’s symbol for Councillors and Members of Parliament in the country’s forthcoming multitier elections.

Like other parts of the country, preparations are ongoing in the Northern District of Tonkolili ahead of the historic day.

One is correct to say Tonkolili is still one of the political strongholds of the APC as per the results of the 2018 presidential elections.

But from what is boiling up, political analysts are predicting that some political parties would likely make inroads into District in the June 2023 elections.

One does not need to be a political analyst or soothsayer to predict why other political parties would likely increase votes in the District. It’s Simple – the aftermath of the APC party symbol elections in the District will hurt the party in June 24th elections.

The outcome will leave many especially grassroots supporters across the District disappointed because it’s apparent that many of the party’s big guns are surreptitiously interfering in the process.

Having served two terms, a section of Members of Parliament from the District is pushing for a third term.

The MPs in Constituency 048, 050, and 055 respectively have all served two terms.

The majority of the party supporters in the District have opposed the idea.

But though the third-term mantra is widely rejected by party supporters across the District, many of them seem to be reluctant and ready to go ahead with it.

Unlike past elections, APC party supporters in Tonkolili are not ready to forgive the party this time should unpopular candidates are imposed or the third-term mantra is tolerated.

They want to take us the people and grassroots for granted but this time we will teach them a lesson,” an anonymous APC supporter stated.

Would the APC that brands itself as a party of the grassroots blatantly and unconditionally deny the call of the grassroots?

Some aspirants who spoke on condition of anonymity have expressed dissatisfaction and insisted if they’re denied the symbols in any rogue manner, they will decide together with their followers on another political journey. And some of the aspirants are popular in their respective communities.

Whatever the case is, a political time is about to explode in Tonkolii and it will affect many political actors within the APC.

Finally, I’m responsible for what I write but how you comprehend it is your responsibility.
