APC Declares Support For Former President Koroma Amidst Treason Charges

The APC expressed deep disappointment and anger over what they deemed as the “distasteful persecution” of their former Chairman and Leader.
The press release highlighted Ernest Bai Koroma’s distinguished service as a two-term democratically elected President, emphasizing his commitment to constitutional term limits. The APC commended his peaceful relinquishment of power in 2018 and his subsequent dedication to promoting peace, democratic governance, and smooth transitions across Africa. The party condemned the charges against Koroma, characterizing them as a politically motivated attack on a statesman with impeccable democratic credentials.
The APC accused the government of engaging in a sustained political witch-hunt, intimidation, harassment, and persecution, echoing promises made by the president during his campaign. Despite condemning the events of November 26, 2023, the APC expressed concern over what they perceived as a broader trend of democratic backsliding and the emergence of a one-party political hegemony in Sierra Leone.
The press release highlighted the arrest and detention of APC supporters at various levels since 2018, asserting that the party had reached a point where it had to confront these challenges head-on. The APC announced its unwavering support for both former Chairman and Leader Ernest Bai Koroma and National Organizing Secretary Comrade Bai Mahmoud Bangura. The party urged the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) to reconsider their approach, emphasizing the need for concrete steps to promote peace rather than fueling hate and political divisions.
With the country seemingly on the brink, the APC called for a collective effort to unify Sierra Leone. The party reassured the public of its confidence in Ernest Bai Koroma’s innocence and announced plans to convene a meeting to determine their next course of action, promising to communicate these decisions to the public.

When the two elephant are fighting, the grass suffer most. That’s exactly how Sierra Leone look like. The innocent people are suffering in this country, SLPP and APC are there fighting each other.
