Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC) Party has sworn in the newly elected Internal Elections Management Committee (IEMC) at the party’s headquarters in Freetown.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary General of the party, Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya admonished the new members to be honest and just in the execution of their duty and ensure that they exercise traits of patriotism.

In response, the new APC National Elections Coordinator, Lawyer Alhaji Hassan Kamara spoke on their determination to work with fairness in executing their mandate. He added that their job is not only about the party but to the nation as a whole.

Article 42 of the party’s constitution establishes the committee in order to conduct, supervise and manage internal party elections at all levels of the party structure. It further gives them the responsibility in the preparation and distribution of ballot papers and boxes including the counting of votes and announcements of results.

In a similar vein, The IEMC’s oath of office is in line with Article 79 of the party’s constitution which mandates that elected members must subscribe to an oath of office.
