A recent social media post by Alfred Minkailu Koroma, a member of the All People’s Congress (APC) Publicity and Communications Team, has generated public discussion about potential leadership succession in Sierra Leone.

The post featured an image of President Dr Julius Maada Bio with Dr Ibrahim Bangura positioned behind him. The caption read: “The present and the ‘near future’ Mr President and his successor.”

The phrasing drew varied interpretations. Some observers viewed the caption as signalling early positioning for future leadership contests, while others cautioned against reading it as a formal political declaration. Public reaction online has been divided, with some users affirming the “present and future” sentiment and others questioning the intent or warning that statements from party communication officials should be carefully worded to avoid misinterpretation.

In response to comments, Koroma was asked whether his position within the APC permitted him to openly support an individual at this stage, with one commenter noting it could “compromise your movement within the party.” Koroma replied: “am the IEMC Coordinator? Am I part of the body conducting internal elections in the party? If you don’t understand the APC, don’t jump into conclusions hastily. Kindly try to study the party first.

Other commenters also raised the name of Dr David Moinina Sengeh in relation to succession after President Bio.

Koroma did not explicitly endorse Dr Bangura in the post. As of publication, neither the APC leadership nor Dr Bangura has stated the post, which continues to circulate on social media. The debate remains centred on public perception rather than official communication from the parties involved.
