Family members, political stakeholders, and sympathizers gathered in Lungi to pay their final respects to Abdul Rahman Omega Sesay, a prominent All People’s Congress (APC) politician who was recently found murdered.
Sesay, the former Public Relations Officer (PRO) and aspiring District Council Chairman for Port Loko District, was laid to rest following a funeral ceremony celebrating his life and public service.
Leading APC flagbearer aspirant Dr. Ibrahim Bangura attended the burial alongside other senior party members. Delivering his condolences, Dr. Bangura described Sesay as a hardworking, humble, and committed leader who should be remembered for his dedication to community development.
Other tributes during the ceremony highlighted his professionalism and the significant impact he had on Port Loko District and neighboring communities.
The somber funeral follows a shocking police investigation into Sesay’s sudden death. On June 1, 2026, just hours after watching the UEFA Champions League final, Sesay was discovered lifeless in a hotel room in Lungi, Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, alongside a woman identified as Mary Sia Bangura.
Following the discovery of the bodies, the remains were transported to Freetown for a post-mortem examination. The family recently released the autopsy results, which revealed clear evidence of foul play and confirmed that Sesay’s neck was broken, leading to strangulation. Medical examiners also found indications of severe food poisoning, noting that his gut was black.
The grim forensic findings categorically dismissed widespread social media rumors and blog reports that falsely alleged the politician died from an overdose of illicit drugs or alcohol.
Police in Lungi have taken three suspects into custody in connection with the alleged murders. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the detainees or a suspected motive, and investigations remain ongoing.
Beyond his political aspirations, Mr. Sesay was a dedicated academic, serving as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Management and Technology and studying as a PhD candidate at the University of Makeni.
