APC Outlines Roadmap Ahead of 2028 Elections, Dismisses Speculation on Targeting President Bio
Aaron Parker The All People’s Congress (APC) has intensified preparations for the 2028 elections, engaging flagbearer aspirants to discuss the party’s vision, goals, and strategic direction.
The National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sidi Yayah Tunis, shared details of these engagements during an interview on Liberty Online TV’s Breakfast Show.
Tunis emphasized that party unity and effective leadership are central to APC’s election strategy. He highlighted efforts to maintain a cooperative and comradely approach among members, ensuring that the party stays focused on its overarching goals.
For the first time, APC plans to develop a party manifesto before selecting a flagbearer, ensuring that candidates campaign based on the party’s agenda rather than personal ambitions.
Tunis explained that specialized committees and coordinating teams have been established to oversee key areas such as the census, the Tripartite process, and election preparations, aimed at avoiding past challenges experienced in 2018 and 2023.
On internal disagreements, Tunis noted that differences do not equate to disunity and affirmed that the party is effectively managing its internal dynamics. He also dismissed rumors suggesting APC is plotting to unseat President Julius Maada Bio in favor of Dr. Samura Kamara, describing such claims as unfounded.
The party has submitted new aspirant rules to the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), requiring members to be scandal-free, current on party dues, and have at least one year of membership. If approved, the rules will take effect on October 1, 2025.
Tunis also reaffirmed APC’s stance on national electoral systems, advocating for the continuation of the first-past-the-post system, and cautioning that proportional representation could weaken accountability.
He commended the Tripartite and National Unity Agreements and praised the collaborative efforts of security agencies, expressing hope for stronger coordination ahead of the 2028 elections.
