The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) receives bulletproof vests and helmets from the New York Police Department as a way of helping the SLP in training and equipping.

In a testament to the strong relationship between the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the New York Police Department (NYPD), the Ambassador of Sierra Leone to the United States, Sidique Abou-Bakarr Wai said that the Sierra Leone Police will today receive a consignment of 500 Bulletproof Vests, and 1,000 Helmets from the New York Police Department in United States.

The collaboration between the two police forces took shape when Ambassador Wai engaged his long-time friend, Eric Adams, who serves as the Mayor of New York City, seeking support for the Sierra Leone Police’s training and equipment needs. Recognizing the importance of this partnership, Mayor Adams readily agreed to extend a helping hand to the SLP.

NYPD Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban expressed his gratitude, stating, “With the generous support of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the NYPD was able to donate 500 ballistic vests and 1,000 Helmets to the Republic of Sierra Leone Police Force.” Commissioner Caban emphasized that the NYPD is always ready to assist fellow police officers from around the world in their mission to uphold law and order.

Sierra Leone and the United States have maintained a steadfast bilateral relationship, further strengthened by the generosity and cooperation exhibited through such initiatives
