The Regional Commissioner for the Western Region, Zainab Umu Moseray has revealed reason the ECSL will not release specific data to political parties.

Commissioner Moseray said the ECSL is cautious of the national data protection law and because of that personal information of voters will not be shared to political parties.

She said certain personal information has the tendency to put voters’ security at risk.

She said certain information including place of birth, parent names and phone numbers will not be released to political parties.

We have our register and political parties have theirs. We cannot give all the burden of information about the personality for voter security reasons,” Moseray told Awoko.

The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party has been at loggerheads with the ECSL over voter register.

At a special PPLC Meeting earlier in June at the ECSL Headquarters, APC representatives requested that the ECSL share the same register they have with political parties.

The ECSL refused citing that that was not the norm in previous elections and that they intend to keep voters’ personal information private.

Sierra Leone will go to the polls this Saturday in a multitier election.
