The leader and presidential candidate of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Samura Kamara, delivered a firm message to the people of Sierra Leone, stating that elected APC lawmakers will refrain from participating in governance amidst the ongoing political stalemate in the country.
In his address to Sierra Leoneans Kamara call for APC-elected lawmakers and officials to abstain from participating in the governance processes led by the Bio regime.
He argued that participating in such governance would validate an illegitimate government that had come to power through electoral fraud.
Kamara reiterated the APC’s stance, originally expressed in a party press release, to refuse participation in political processes until the electoral fraud was rectified.
regarding the outcome of the June 24, 2023 elections. He vehemently contested the legitimacy of the election results and accused the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mohamed Konneh, of electoral fraud and malpractices. Kamara maintained that the announced results did not reflect the true will of the people.
Kamara emphasized that the elections were not merely about his own candidacy or the APC but were crucial for the future of Sierra Leone. He contended that the government led by President Julius Maada Bio was illegitimate and accused it of undermining democracy, human rights violations, economic mismanagement, and electoral rigging.
Kamara also stressed the importance of an upcoming inter-party dialogue between the APC and the Bio regime as a peaceful means to resolve the political impasse. He expressed his commitment to representing the interests of the Sierra Leonean people and restoring democracy through this dialogue.
