The National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, has paid an unannounced visit to Kenema to inspect the ongoing construction of the Party’s Eastern Regional Headquarters.
During the visit on Monday, 17 August 2026, Chairman Songa engaged party stakeholders, members, and engineers involved in the project. He received a comprehensive update on the construction progress and encouraged all stakeholders to continue working together to ensure timely completion.
Chairman Songa assured party members that should the office be completed ahead of schedule, he would engage the Party Leader and other stakeholders on the possibility of hosting a forthcoming SLPP National Conversation in Kenema. He called on members to contribute in whatever way possible towards expediting the construction.
President Julius Maada Bio officially turned the sod for the construction of the Eastern Regional Headquarters in Kenema on 9 May 2026, dedicating the project to the party’s grassroots supporters across the region. The ceremony attracted large numbers of party supporters and members, many of whom made financial pledges and donations toward the project.
At the sod-turning ceremony, President Bio described himself as “Debt Collector One” while Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh would serve as “Debt Collector Two” to collect donations for the construction. The President emphasized that the project represents more than infrastructure, stating: “This project is not just about putting up a building. It is about service to the people”.
National Chairman Songa described the proposed regional headquarters as a strategic center for party administration, engagement, and mobilisation that would serve the party “for the next one hundred years”. The facility, expected to be completed next year, will host party meetings, administrative activities, and community engagement programmes.
Chairman Songa also used the occasion to address party members on the recently concluded Constitutional Amendment process in Parliament. He explained the various stages of the process and provided clarity on the parliamentary proceedings and the current status of the amendment, encouraging members to remain informed and united.
He expressed appreciation to President Bio for his leadership and commitment to the people of Sierra Leone, calling on SLPP members and supporters to remain calm, focused, and united. The National Chairman further urged members to remain committed to the Party’s ideals and organisational activities, expressing confidence in a strong electoral performance and a clear victory for the SLPP in the 2028 elections.
