The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio has handed over the land documents to each Leone Stars player and a cheque of Le 4,100,000,000 to the Minister of Sport at the Presidential Dinner at Bintumani Hotel.

Leone Stars played the Squirrels of Benin on Tuesday 15th June, 2021 at the General Lansana Conte Stadium in Conakry, Guinea that led to the defeat of Squirrels of Benin by one goal to nil. The winning goal came after a penalty was awarded to Leone Stars within 22 minutes of play. The penalty was shot by Kei Kamara.

The National Team was given a warm welcome by the government and the people of Sierra Leone at the National Stadium. After 25 years, the team finally made it to the Africa Cup Of Nations. This victory by the Leone Stars brought happiness to the country.

The first match between Leone Stars and the Squirrels of Benin was supposed to take place on 30th March 2021 at the National Stadium in Freetown. President Julius Maada promised each Leone Stars’ player a plot of land and a sum of ten thousand dollars ($ 10,000) if they qualify for 2022 Africa Cup Of Nations. The match did not take place due to a Covid-19 controversy.

The game was finally played on Tuesday 15th June, 2021 at the General Lansana Conte Stadium in Conakry and Leone Stars ended up defeating the Squirrels of Benin by one goal to nil. This made Sierra Leone to qualify for 2022 Africa Cup Of Nations after 25 years.

During the match in Conakry, Guinea and the welcoming of the team, the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Fatima Jabbe Maada Bio who is passionate about football was in Italy on a special assignment. While in Italy, Fatima Bio posted a Tik Tok video on her official Facebook page congratulating Leone Stars Players and the people of Sierra Leone.

Congratulations to Mama Salone from Italy. Leone Stars Dinner is on Saturday.” She wrote.

The Presidential Dinner was organized by the First Lady, Fatima Jabbe Maada Bio at the Prestigious Bintumani Hotel in Freetown to present the Land Documents to the National Team and the Le 100,000,000 that were promised by President Bio for each player. The Land Documents were presented by the President himself to the players and officials. A sum of Le 4,100,000,000 was presented by the Minister of Finance to the Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh to be distributed to forty one (41) players.
