Star Sport Academy have reached the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after securing a 2-1 aggregate win over Gambian champions Medina United.
A 1-1 draw in the second leg was enough to see the continental debutants through, following their crucial 1-0 victory in the opening fixture.
The result continues an astonishing rise for the Sierra Leonean side, who were playing second-tier football just a few years ago. Star Sport established themselves in the Leone Rock Premier League before finishing second in the 2025/26 season with 61 points. They subsequently took up Sierra Leone’s Champions League spot after title-winners Bo Rangers withdrew.
Built on a core of young talent bolstered by experienced heads, the club have earned plaudits for an ambitious, attacking brand of football that has now carried them onto the pan-African stage.
Their reward is a formidable second-round tie against Moroccan giants RS Berkane, who enter the competition at this stage.
The next round of the CAF Champions League is expected to be between the 16–18 October with return legs slated for 23–25 October, 2026.
Star Sport will host the first leg before travelling to Morocco for the return fixture, marking the biggest test in the club’s short history.
