Sierra Leone’s swimming sensation Halle Harris has made history at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after becoming the first Sierra Leonean swimmer to reach a semifinal at the prestigious multi-sport event.
Harris achieved the milestone on Monday, July 27, following a remarkable performance in the women’s 50m backstroke heats. Competing in Heat Four, the 19-year-old clocked an impressive 29.07 seconds to finish fourth in her heat and 12th overall, securing her place among the top 16 swimmers advancing to the semifinals.
The historic achievement marks a major breakthrough for Sierra Leone’s representation in international swimming and highlights Harris’s growing influence on the global stage.
Representing the United Kingdom-based Poole Swimming Club, Harris has continued to rewrite Sierra Leone’s swimming records with her outstanding performances. Her qualification for the Commonwealth Games semifinal is the first of its kind for a Sierra Leonean swimmer, setting a new benchmark for the country’s athletes.
Beyond the 50m backstroke, Harris has demonstrated remarkable versatility, competing across multiple swimming disciplines, including freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. She is the first swimmer to represent Sierra Leone across five competitive categories at this level.
