The Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh in collaboration with the National Sports Authority and members from the press had on yesterday paid a visit to Siaka Stevens Stadium. The purpose of the visit was to pay a site inspection and progressive tour on the the stadiums rehabilitation project.

The Ministry in collaboration with the National Sports Authority officially launched the project on the 25th February 2022. The Project work started after successful official handing over from the Government of Sierra Leone to the Chinese Construction Company. This project of rehabilitation is estimated a budget of about 40- million-dollar rehabilitation of the country’s National Stadium on behalf of the Chinese Government.

According to Ambassador Hu Zhangliang, the rehabilitation work would include the restoration, reinforcement, and redecoration of the main stadium, the pitch, practicing field with artificial turf and pavilion, the swimming pool and its ancillary facilities, the renovation of the athletics track and hostel, Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball courts, the construction of more than 1,200 square meters of new buildings and facilities, the renewal of drainage among other facilities.

After paying a visit 2 months ago accompanied by Director of Sports, Haroun Korgi, Ambassador of Sports, Junior Charlie Bio, Stadium Manager, Paul Dambulay, Deputy Stadium Manager, Alfred Tucker, Karate President, Victor Amara and James Fofanah, the Minister had yesterday in collaboration with the National Sports Authority paid another visit and did a progressive tour to the stadium to check the percentage of the project’s completion.
