The thirteenth edition of the Ernest Bai Koroma Trophy climaxed in a very amusing moment at the Makeni Wusum Field on Sunday 25th December 2022 graced by the former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone whose name bears the tournament Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the founder, and chief sponsor, Hon. Chernor Maju Bah, Mayor Sunkarie Kabba Kamara of the Makeni City Council among the hosts of other football administrators and stakeholders from the district and the region.

Bullom Stars from Lungi who made it to the final for the first time face off against the 2019 runner-up Kholifa Stars from Magburaka, however, the final ended in the fierce showpiece, tight and entertaining display, but no side was able to break the deadlock in the 90 minutes of play after both sides have several chances, Bullom Stars FC dominated the first 45 minutes of proceedings, but the clear-cut chance was gifted to the Kholifa Stars’ striker, in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper only managed to blast it over the woodwork and went to the break in a stalemate.

Kholifa Stars was a different team in the second half with high intensity and a lot of chances but Bullom Stars goalkeeper, Aruna Cole showcased an exceptional performance with a plethora of saves to force the game into a penalty shootout.

Stopper Alpha Kamara who won the Golden Gloves award of the tournament made one saved during the spot kicks to help his side emerge as champions of the 13th edition of the EBK Trophy 2022 with a 5-4 triumph.

Leader of the All Peoples Congress Party at the Sierra Leone Parliament and also the chief sponsor of the tournament Hon. Chernor Maju Bah presented Thirty Thousand Leones (NLe. 30,000,00) to Kholifa Stars as the cash prize and Fifteen Thousand Leones (NLe. 15,000,00) to the runner-up Bullom Stars.

In a brief statement Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, applauded the chief sponsor, Hon. Chernor Maju Bah, the organising committee and all the teams who participated in the tournament, adding the initiative of such a tournament is to identify young talents and keep the spirit of togetherness as a sport brings everyone together.

Defender Ibrahim Bangura who scored the only goal in the semi-final match against Golden Dragon that earned Kholifa Stars a spot in the finals bagged home the Golden Ball, Tonkolili Rangers’ Ibrahim S. Sankoh netted five goals to win the Golden Boot, and Abass Bangura of Kholifa Stars was named as the best young player of the tournament.
