Sierra Leone’s senior male squad, Leone Stars, landed safely at Mohammed the 5th International Airport in Casablanca, Morocco, on Sunday 3rd October 2021.

The squad is in Morocco to play three international friendlies against The Gambia, South Sudan, and Morocco on October 6th, 9th, and 12th, 2021, respectively.

The three friendlies are part of the teams’ preparations for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars have been paired with defending champion Algeria, two-time winner Ivory Coast, and previous host Equatorial Guinea.

Our goal for these matches is not just to win, but also to employ the foreign-based players who have been invited, particularly those who are coming in for the first time, and see what fresh they can bring to the squad,” stated Head Coach John Keister.

The first delegation consisted of eight domestic players, the whole coaching staff, and four officials.

The rest of the group, including foreign-based players, is set to arrive in Morocco on Monday, October 4, 2021.

The delegation is funded by the Sierra Leone government and overseen by the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority.
