Sierra Leone Youngster Mohamed Kamara Secures Five-Year Deal With Swedish Club
Sierra Leone international Mohamed Kamara has completed a permanent transfer to Swedish second-tier club IFK Värnamo, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the club through the 2030 season following an initial loan spell.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who is known by the nickname “Ballon d’Or,” joined Värnamo from Sierra Leonean side AIK Freetong earlier this year. The deal included a pre-agreed purchase option, which the Swedish club has now exercised to make the transfer permanent.
Värnamo sporting director Jörgen Petersson said the club had been monitoring Kamara since 2025 and initially invited him for a trial. However, the trial was delayed after the midfielder received a call-up to Sierra Leone’s senior national team for a World Cup qualifying match.
Kamara eventually joined Värnamo during the preseason and impressed the coaching staff, earning a long-term contract with the club.
Petersson described Kamara as “a signing for the future,” while noting that the young midfielder already has senior international experience. He also praised Kamara’s work rate, ability to retain possession and passing quality in central midfield.
Kamara has made 11 appearances in the Swedish Superettan this season, including one start. Despite limited starting opportunities, his performances and development have convinced Värnamo to commit to a five-year deal.
“I am happy and very content to be part of IFK Värnamo. I appreciate my teammates and the people around the team and the club,” Kamara said.
AIK Freetong has also acknowledged the contribution of Bai Bureh Warriors, Kamara’s previous domestic club, to his development.
Kamara is expected to become eligible for competitive action once his work permit is approved.
