Sierra Leone international Alhaji Kamara scored the decisive goal as IF Elfsborg secured a 1-0 victory over Kalmar FF in the Swedish Allsvenskan on Sunday.
Kamara, who is on loan at Elfsborg from Minnesota United’s MNUFC2, found the back of the net in the 51st minute at Borås Arena to register his fifth Allsvenskan goal of the season.
The Leone Stars forward was released by Leo Östman after the midfielder turned at the halfway line and played a pass into Kamara’s path. Kamara then calmly chipped the ball over Kalmar goalkeeper Samuel Brolin to give Elfsborg the lead.
The victory lifted Elfsborg to fourth place in the Allsvenskan standings, while Kalmar remained 13th, level on points with the relegation playoff position.
Kamara’s goal also added to Kalmar’s recent struggles in front of goal, with the club failing to score in five consecutive league matches. Their last league goal came from Charles Sagoe Jr. in the 1-1 draw against IFK Göteborg on August 9.
Kalmar manager Toni Koskela acknowledged the team’s continued difficulties in front of goal following the defeat.
“We have to find solutions for how to score,” Koskela told TV4 Play. “We had some good chances again today, but we just have to keep working.”
Elfsborg goalkeeper Isak Pettersson played a key role in preserving the clean sheet, producing a stoppage-time save to deny Noah Shamoun. Kalmar also came close to equalising when Miska Ylitolva struck the post in the second half.
The match was briefly interrupted in the 58th minute after assistant referee Niklas Nyberg left the pitch to retrieve a replacement flag when his original flag broke. He returned approximately three minutes later to applause from the home supporters.
