Notts County have secured the season-long loan signing of Sierra Leone international Daniel Kanu from Charlton Athletic, bringing in the forward who was named League Two’s Young Player of the Season in April.
The 21-year-old joins the League One side for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign following a prolific loan spell with Walsall last season, where he scored 18 goals across all competitions and collected four individual end-of-season awards. Kanu netted 15 goals in 40 league appearances for the Saddlers.
“Daniel’s very exciting skillset complements our other forwards nicely,” Notts County Director of Football Richard Montague told the club’s website. “He’s a natural finisher who thrives off running in behind, using his pace and power to his advantage, and he’s also strong out of possession – hard-working and effective in the press, which is important to how we want to play.”
Kanu joined Charlton’s academy at the age of 11 and signed his first professional contract in 2022. He has made 71 senior appearances for the Addicks, scoring 12 goals, and remains under contract at The Valley until 2028 after signing an extension in the summer of 2025.
The striker has earned six caps for Sierra Leone, making his senior debut in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt in November 2023. He scored his first international goal in a friendly against Azerbaijan in March.
Charlton manager Nathan Jones said the club will monitor Kanu’s progress closely during his time at Meadow Lane.
