In a significant development, the Executive Committee of the Northwest Region Football Association has appointed Hon. Rachel  Sesay Pessima as the Ambassador for Female Football.

The appointment, announced on Friday, January 12, 2024, by Chairman Abdul O. Turay, recognizes Hon. Amb. Rachel Mariatu Sesay Pessima’s dedication and passion for sports, particularly women’s football.

Chairman Turay emphasized the monumental nature of the appointment, citing Hon. Amb. Rachel Mariatu Sesay Pessima’s consistent commitment to equality and empowerment of women through sports. He acknowledged her tireless and exceptional contributions that have significantly impacted the development of both male and female football in the region, serving as an inspiration for aspiring footballers.

As the newly appointed Ambassador, Hon. Amb. Rachel Mariatu Sesay Pessima is expected to enhance the visibility and growth of women’s football in the region, contributing to a brighter and more inclusive future for football.

The Regional Chairman conveyed the Association’s gratitude for her support, highlighting her contribution to the recently funded Inter Chiefdom Le 50,000 gala organized by the Port Loko District Football Association. He also announced that this year’s Region Female League would be dedicated to her, showcasing appreciation for her laudable efforts to promote football.

Twelve female teams have consented to play in the Ambassador Rachel Pessima Female Competition, organized by the Northwest Region Football Association, with matches to be held at Karene, Port Loko, and Kambia Districts across 14 playing venues.

Expressing her elation and gratitude, Hon. Amb. Rachel Mariatu Sesay Pessima emphasized her commitment to supporting football in Port Loko District and the region.
