Rodney Michael, the Chief Executive Officer of Mighty Blackpool FC, has publicly voiced his concerns over the Sierra Leone Premier League Board’s $80,000 sponsorship deal with Lion Rock Metal Group.

Michael emphasized the financial challenges faced by clubs and the need for greater recognition of their contributions. Taking to Twitter, he stated, “A league that costs clubs $2 million and we’re celebrating an $80,000 sponsorship? The logic is baffling. It’s a poor investment.”

Michael called on the government, the Football Association (FA), and the Sierra Leonean public to truly appreciate the sacrifices clubs are making for the sport.

He didn’t stop there, further adding that critics can label him however they wish, but if the chairmen of SLFA Premier League clubs were to heed his advice, they should consider ceding control of their teams to President Bio and Thomas Dadddy Brima. This, Michael believes, would be a significant step until a national policy is developed that actively promotes corporate sponsorships and dedicated funding for sports in Sierra Leone.
