Sports Ministry, UNDP Explore Ways to Strengthen Sports Governance in Sierra Leone
The Ministry of Sports and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have held discussions on strengthening governance structures, policy frameworks and institutional capacity within Sierra Leone’s sports sector.
The discussions took place during a strategic engagement between Minister of Sports Augusta James-Teima and UNDP Resident Representative Fredrick Hans Ampiah.
The meeting focused on potential areas of collaboration to improve sports administration, including policy development, regulatory frameworks and long-term institutional sustainability.
The two sides also discussed strengthening the capacity of institutions involved in sports governance, identifying priority areas for cooperation and exploring resource mobilisation strategies to support sports development initiatives.
The engagement further highlighted the importance of ensuring that investments in sports are structured to generate long-term national benefits and contribute to broader national development priorities.
The collaboration comes as the Ministry of Sports continues efforts to strengthen sports governance and institutional systems, while UNDP supports governance reforms, institutional development and national development planning in Sierra Leone.
The meeting was attended by Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA); Chief Michael Shamsu Mustapha of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 2; and Lic. Momodu Alpha of the Ministry of Sports.
