No President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, has urged the national U-17 team, the Shooting Stars, to represent the country with pride, discipline, and determination as they prepare for the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations WAFU-A Zonal Qualifiers in Senegal.

Addressing the players and officials at the SLFA Academy on Tuesday, September 1, President Kamara challenged the young players to believe in themselves and embrace the responsibility of wearing the national colours.

“As Shooting Stars, you are fit to play among the best in the tournament. Be motivated, believe in yourselves, and go out there to bring the trophy home,” he stated.

The SLFA President also called on the technical team to uphold professionalism and fairness throughout the selection process, emphasising that players should be selected strictly on merit and their ability to contribute to the national team’s success.

SLFA Executive Committee Member Mohamed Sorie Jalloh, who is leading the Shooting Stars delegation to Senegal, assured the President and the people of Sierra Leone of a committed and professional representation.

Head Coach Patrick Bangura welcomed the President’s engagement, describing his message as a major source of motivation for the players.

“This inspiration from you is huge for the boys; it will push us not just to compete, but to contend against any opponent,” he said.

The tournament will run from September 7 to 21 in Senegal, with Sierra Leone scheduled to face The Gambia on September 7, hosts Senegal on September 10, and Mauritania on September 13.

The Shooting Stars are expected to depart for Dakar on Wednesday, carrying the hopes of the nation as they begin their campaign for regional glory.
