Star Sport Academy’s preparations for continental football suffered a setback Friday as Karfamoriah FC handed the Sierra Leonean side a 4-0 defeat in the West Africa Champions Cup.
The match was played at Stade M’Balou Mady Glao Diakité in Kankan, where Karfamoriah made a strong start.
Souleymane Diawara opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Amadou Mansaré doubled Karfamoriah’s advantage in the 31st minute, sending the hosts into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Star Sport Academy could not find a response after the break. Diawara scored again in the 60th minute to complete his brace, while Mohamed Lamine Condé added the fourth goal in the 90th minute.
The four-goal defeat is particularly disappointing for Star Sport Academy against a Karfamoriah side that finished 11th in the 2025-26 Guinea Ligue 1 season.
The result comes at an important stage for Star Sport Academy, which is preparing to represent Sierra Leone in the 2026-27 CAF Champions League.
The club is scheduled to face Medina United of The Gambia in the preliminary round, with the first leg set for Sept. 5 and the return leg on Sept. 12.
Friday’s result does not affect that CAF Champions League tie, but it gives Star Sport Academy plenty to assess as it works to improve before its continental campaign begins.
The Sierra Leonean side will now look to respond in its remaining West Africa Champions Cup matches and build momentum ahead of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
