Newly promoted Leone Rock Premier League side Waterloo Football Club has secured the signing of midfielder Daniel Karim, known as “Mahrez,” on a three-year contract after his six-year stint with FC Kallon, multiple sources confirmed.
Karim, 21, joins the “Fry-Fish Boys” as they prepare for their top-flight debut following a controversial promotion decided by the Sierra Leone Football Association’s (SLFA) Emergency Disciplinary Committee.
The signing represents a significant ambition for Waterloo, which earned promotion after the SLFA awarded the club a forfeit victory over Marampa Stars FC in a National First Division Play-Off semifinal abandoned on July 16, 2026, due to crowd trouble. The committee’s ruling confirmed Waterloo’s place in the top tier alongside Western United.
Karim, a Sierra Leone U20 international born Nov. 7, 2004, rose through FC Kallon’s ranks and was named in the Leone Stars’ home-based squad for AFCON qualifiers in 2023. His nickname, “Mahrez,” draws comparison to Algerian star Riyad Mahrez.
He previously attracted international attention, undergoing trials with Italian Serie A club Udinese Calcio in 2023 alongside fellow FC Kallon player Emmanuel Gono. During that period, FC Kallon CEO Mohamed Kallon confirmed the trials, noting European clubs had expressed interest in multiple FC Kallon players.
Karim also scored for FC Kallon in a CAF Confederation Cup clash against Ghana’s Dreams FC in September 2023. His departure from FC Kallon was recorded as a free transfer.
For Waterloo, whose rise from district-level competitions under the Western Area Rural District Football Association (WARDFA) has been hailed as a grassroots success story, Karim’s arrival signals readiness for the Premier League challenge.
