In a vibrant gathering signifying global solidarity and local commitment to food security, Dr. Ekundayo Walton Gilpin, the Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank, stood shoulder to shoulder with government officials, international partners, and thousands of farmers from across Sierra Leone.

This grand assembly was convened in the Pujehun District to mark the annual World Food Day.

The event also spotlighted the “Feed Salone” initiative, the flagship programme of President Bio’s second term. Aiming to reduce Sierra Leone’s dependence on food imports, this initiative focuses on nurturing local agriculture to produce basic food items. By doing so, it seeks not just to ensure every Sierra Leonean has enough to eat, but also to stimulate the nation’s economic growth.

Celebrated globally on October 16, World Food Day pays homage to the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization. Numerous entities, including the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Program, participate in these celebrations, emphasizing the necessity for food security and the significance of nutritious diets for everyone. Central to the day’s ethos is the affirmation that access to food is a fundamental human right.

Rokel Commercial Bank, with its longstanding commitment to Sierra Leone’s progress, has consistently been at the forefront of initiatives like these. Through its Corporate Social Responsibilities, the bank continues to endorse projects and strategies that herald a brighter, more prosperous future for the country.
