The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) took a significant step towards promoting grassroots football and nurturing young talents by engaging Secretaries and Competition Officers from Districts and Regional Football Associations in a round table discussion today.
The primary goal of this meeting was to set the stage for the much-anticipated 2023/24 National Youth Leagues, as well as the Division 1 and 2 male leagues and the inaugural Division 1 female league.
The deliberations, held under the leadership of Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, Technical Director Ibrahim Bah, and Director of Competitions Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, aimed to develop a comprehensive roadmap and playing format for the upcoming competitions.
In his statement, Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh emphasized SLFA’s commitment to launching high-quality youth football competitions in both male and female categories. He stated that this initiative is part of the association’s broader effort to rejuvenate grassroots football throughout Sierra Leone.
The youth competitions are set to feature various age groups, including U-12 and U-14 categories for boys, and U-15 and U-17 categories for girls.
The preparations for the upcoming competitions are in full swing, with registration of participating clubs and other pre-tournament arrangements scheduled to occur between November 15th and 30th, 2023. This will ensure the commencement of the leagues in the first week of December this year.
