Leone Stars Drop Three Places in Latest FIFA Rankings

21 Sep 2024 • 1 min read • 5,276 views • 2 comments

Sierra Leone’s Senior Men’s National Football Team, the Leone Stars, has experienced a dip in the latest FIFA rankings, dropping three positions to 125th place globally.

The updated rankings, released by FIFA on September 19, 2024, reflect a loss of 14.74 points for Sierra Leone from July to September of this year. This decline also sees the team fall from 34th to 35th place among the 53 CAF nations.

The drop in ranking follows the Leone Stars’ recent struggles, with a winless streak in their last three international matches. Head coach Amidu Kamara, who has been under increasing scrutiny, has managed only two wins out of eight games since his appointment by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).

Despite the current setback, Sierra Leone still holds a higher rank than countries such as The Gambia, India, Liberia, and Rwanda. However, the team is under pressure to reverse its fortunes as they prepare for a crucial double-header against Ivory Coast in October as part of the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Leone star has to drop, because there is political interference in sports. Let’s politicians leave the game to the footballers and allow the coaches to do their work. Bravo Leone star more effort is needed. Let’s the politicians take their hand off from the sports disciplines, and only do financial and superversionary role and leave the management of the team to do their work best
