Doctor Kandeh Yumkella, the energy lead sector has disclosed that Sierra Leone’s Government has pulled out of the Bumbuna Phase 2 project due to it’s projected cost of $1.1 billion, a figure which is considered unsustainable considering current financial realities in Sierra Leone.

According to him, the latest feasibility study showed that the Bumbuna Phase 2 would cost about $1.1 billion in order to activate about 120 megawatts (MW) of electricity distribution.

He continued by saying that “the economics is wrong and that there are studies which I have checked with other financial institution like World Bank, African development Bank, Development Finance cooperation United State and other several banks and they all said the economics is totally wrong”.
