Tensions are rising at Number 9 Spur Road, where residents are calling on the government to intervene in a heated land dispute involving a site earmarked for a new community health center.
The land, which locals say was previously offered to them for development following a public inquiry to the ministry of works that began in February 2024, has become the center of conflicting ownership claims. the community people said they have all necessary document pertaining the land and were allegedly assure by the Ministry of Works and Public Asset.
However, recent developments have complicated the situation. A woman identified as Mammy Kona has stepped forward, claiming ownership of the land for the past several months. Despite acknowledging she has no official documents to prove her claim, Mammy Kona insists the property belongs to her and has moved to halt construction activities on site.
After the alleged claims the community went back to the Ministry of Works and Public Asset and they were allegedly told that all their document were correct. The community had already mobilized efforts and resources to begin building a much-needed health center, which they argue is essential given the poor condition of the current facility. Locals say they have been personally contributing to sustain the existing center and are determined to improve healthcare access in the area.
“We’ve followed all due processes,” one concerned resident stated. “We started this project for the people, and now it’s being threatened.
The affected community is now urgently appealing to “Papa Government” and relevant authorities to intervene, clarify ownership, and protect the development of what they believe is a critical public health project.
