The Whip of the All People’s Congress (APC) in Parliament, Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK), has demanded a public apology from Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella concerning the Proportional Representation (PR) system proposed for Sierra Leone’s electoral framework.
Abdul Kamara contended that the PR system fails to represent the true preferences of the Sierra Leonean people.
During a recent press interview, Kamara criticized the implementation of the PR system, stating, “This PR System has never been the choice of the people.”
He stressed that the system should only be considered an alternative in situations where the electoral process cannot be completed, insisting that it is inappropriate as a permanent fixture in the legal framework for elections.
Kamara specifically pointed to Yumkella’s role in advocating for the PR system, arguing that it has resulted in a lack of representation in his maternal home, where there has been no elected councilor.
“Dr. Kandeh Yumkella owes the public an apology,” he declared, highlighting the disconnect between the proposed system and the needs of the citizens.
The Opposition Whip further asserted that the PR system is inherently flawed, stating, “It self was faulty.”
