A fiery political debate is sweeping through the streets, corners, and corridors of Port Loko District as two heavyweight contenders (Sorie Sulaiman Sesay (SSS) and Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, aka Jagaban) enter the race for the All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a district known for its political significance and voter influence, residents are now split in opinion, weighing decades of technocratic service against a wave of bold, philanthropic activism.
Sorie Sulaiman Sesay, a name etched in Sierra Leone’s development circles, brings over two decades of public service experience. Supporters praise him for his role in landmark rural development projects across the country, including key agricultural initiatives such as WAAPP and SCADeP. They point to the Mattru-Senehun bridge and the training of 40+ agricultural scientists as evidence of his deep-rooted, long-term impact on national progress.
“SSS doesn’t make noise, but his work is everywhere,” said a supporter who chooses anonymity “He’s been part of building this nation from the ground up. His policies feed farmers and educate children.”
Others admire his calm and calculated leadership style, arguing it is what the APC and the country needs in an increasingly complex global economy. His supporters view him as a strategic asset with the experience and institutional memory to lead Sierra Leone forward.
Meanwhile, Jagaban has electrified Port Loko with his bold and visible gestures, rapidly rising in popularity through his philanthropic initiatives. At his recent visit to Port Loko on August 4, at the Bai Bureh Memorial Hall, he unveiled a staggering NLe 4 billion development package—directed toward women entrepreneurs, religious institutions, infrastructure, and the APC Party itself.
“Jagaban acts, and then he talks. That’s what we want—someone who gives now, not promises for tomorrow,” said a strong supporter, “He has changed lives in days!”
From funding a cold room in Bilor Village to responding directly to a youth’s development plea from Kalangba Junction, Jagaban’s approach has earned him praise for being accessible and action-driven.
As Port Loko’s residents deliberate, community debates have become increasingly intense. street corners, and social media platforms are buzzing with passionate arguments from both camps.
For now, Port Loko remains at the center of a political storm—where experience meets energy, and every conversation ends with one question: SSS or Jagaban
