The Sierra Leone national senior mixed Tug of War team is preparing to participate in the Tug of War World Championship scheduled for 3rd to 7th September 2025 in Nottingham, United Kingdom. The event will be hosted by the English Tug of War Association at the University of Nottingham, University Park.
Gavin Corden, International Representative of the Tug of War Association (England) to the Tug of War International Federation, confirmed that Sierra Leone has received an official invitation to compete. Participating teams will arrive on 2nd September and depart on 8th September, with accommodations provided in the university’s student halls of residence.
According to head coach Sonny Johnson, Sierra Leone will compete in the senior 4-by-4 mixed 580 kg category. The team is currently undergoing intensive training, holding four weekly sessions on Saturdays at Aberdeen Beach and on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Peacekeeping Force Gym in Bombay.
Coach Johnson stated that the team aims to deliver a strong performance and raise Sierra Leone’s profile in the sport.
The upcoming competition will see Sierra Leone face off against teams from across the globe as they seek to gain international recognition in tug of war.
