Chief Superintendent Zainab Mbalu Gbla, a senior officer in the Sierra Leone Police, has been named the 2025 UN Women Police Officer of the Year, receiving international recognition for her service and leadership.

On Thursday afternoon, she paid a courtesy visit to the office of the First Lady, who congratulated her on the award and commended her representation of Sierra Leone on the global stage. He noted that her professionalism and discipline reflect the contributions of women in national service.

Gbla’s recognition highlights the increasing role of women in law enforcement and peacekeeping missions. Authorities emphasized continued commitment to supporting women in leadership positions and encouraging their participation in decision-making processes.

The award is presented annually by the United Nations to acknowledge outstanding service by female police officers serving in peacekeeping or special political missions.
