Myk Berewa, the Director of Communications, at State House has responded on Facebook to a viral video highlighting what appears to be a quietly launched Citizenship-by-Investment scheme by the Sierra Leone government.

“Salone is not just handing out passports to foreigners. We have rolled out a fast-track citizenship program for investors, which is a global norm. Over 20 countries now offer legal citizenship by investment options,” he stated.

The program, which reportedly grants citizenship and passports to foreigners in exchange for investment, has faced criticism for its lack of transparency.

Many Sierra Leoneans on social media have expressed concerns over the absence of an official government announcement, parliamentary debate, or public policy documents regarding the scheme.

Reports indicate that American nationals have been among the first beneficiaries of the program.
