The National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has cautioned party members against prematurely campaigning for the 2028 presidential flagbearer position.

In an interview with Liberty Online TV, he stressed that the party’s current priority is to deliver on the mandate of President Julius Maada Bio’s government.

Mambu’s comments come in response to viral infographics circulating on social media, which suggest that certain figures within the SLPP including First Lady Madam Fatima Maada Bio may be considering a run for the party’s presidential ticket. While these claims remain neither confirmed nor denied, Mambu emphasized that they contradict the President’s earlier directive that all aspirations be suspended until further notice.

He revealed that the SLPP will officially announce when the process for flagbearer applications will open, but underscored that, for now, governance and service delivery must take precedence.

Beyond addressing succession politics, Mambu also reassured both the public and party membership of the new executive committee’s commitment to strengthening unity within the SLPP. He highlighted the ongoing reconciliation drive, noting that grievances will be addressed at every level  from zonal branches to the national leadership and even international structures.

According to him, restoring internal cohesion remains a key objective of the current executive, which is determined to consolidate the party’s base and ensure stability ahead of future electoral contests.
