The European Union (EU) has reinforced its commitment to Sierra Leone’s sustainable development and local governance during a high-level courtesy visit to the Kenema District Council as part of the ongoing EUBusTour2025.
Chairman of the Kenema District Council, Umaru, warmly welcomed the EU delegation, emphasizing that the EU would continue to work with the district to strengthen local development and improve the quality of life for residents.
The Council expressed gratitude to the EU for its support, particularly in developing human capacity and enhancing local revenue generation. Officials highlighted that, with EU assistance, the district has made significant progress in improving service delivery.
Among the major EU-funded projects cited were a newly constructed council building and a funeral home.
Council members also underlined the importance of the recently built market facility, noting its role in boosting revenue mobilization. Despite some challenges, market taxes are now playing a key part in improving local services.
These initiatives reflect the EU’s growing engagement with the Kenema District Council and its ongoing efforts to support sustainable development and effective local governance.
