Hon. Mohamed Alpha Jalloh, Member of Parliament for Falaba District under the All People’s Congress (APC), has described the Makeni–Kabala Highway as a “death trap” and urged the government to take immediate action to rehabilitate it.

Hon. Jalloh said the deteriorating condition of the road poses serious risks to motorists and passengers while crippling economic activities in Falaba and Koinadugu districts.

He noted that a journey which previously took about 90 minutes now lasts over four hours, citing frequent accidents, including recent collisions involving a timber truck and a passenger bus carrying nearly 80 people.

The MP emphasized that the bad road has made it difficult for farmers to transport perishable produce such as tomatoes, cabbage, and lettuce, leading to significant financial losses.

Hon. Jalloh further criticized the government for neglecting the region despite its vital role in national food production and its strong electoral support for President Julius Maada Bio in the 2023 elections.

He called on the authorities to make the reconstruction of the Makeni–Kabala Highway a national priority to ensure safe travel, improve trade, and boost economic stability in the northern region.
