The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr Fatima Maada Bio, on Tuesday, 23rd December, 2025, joined her husband, President Dr Julius Maada Bio, at the official launch of the Bo Cultural Festival 2025 at the Bo Mini Stadium, marking the start of a major national cultural event in the southern city of Bo.
According to a statement released by the First Lady after the event, the 2025 edition of the festival is aimed at celebrating Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage, including sports, drumming and dancing, agricultural products, and local cuisine.
She noted that the festival brings people together from different communities and backgrounds in the spirit of peace and unity.

Fatima Bio said one of the major highlights of the launch was the coronation of paramount chiefs, which she described as a historic tradition. She recalled that such a coronation was last held in 1961 at the Durba Ground in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II, later at the Bo Coronation Field, and has now been revived under the leadership of President Dr Julius Maada Bio.
In her statement, the First Lady expressed appreciation to the organizers of the Bo Cultural Festival for what she described as a “remarkable event” that promotes peace and national cohesion. She concluded by offering prayers for the country, saying, “May God bless us all, and may God bless Sierra Leone.”

The Bo Cultural Festival is expected to feature a range of cultural and social activities throughout its duration, with organizers and government officials highlighting its role in preserving national heritage and strengthening unity across the country.
