AbuBakarr, a 12-year-old boy from Sierra Leone, has been bravely battling Chronic Kidney Disease for the past four years.
Despite undergoing dialysis and countless other treatments, doctors have now determined that a kidney transplant is the only way to save his life.
Living with his family in Sierra Leone, AbuBakarr’s condition has continued to worsen, and the only medical option available is to travel to a hospital in Lebanon or Turkey, where advanced kidney transplant services can be provided.
However, the costs associated with the transplant, as well as the necessary post-operative care, have placed an overwhelming financial burden on his family.
AbuBakarr’s parents, who are already struggling with the financial demands of their son’s ongoing treatment, now face the daunting task of raising $40,000 to cover the transplant surgery, travel expenses, lodging near the transplant center, and ongoing medical care, including lifelong medications.
For the family, this is more than just a financial challenge. It’s a desperate effort to give their son a fighting chance at a future. AbuBakarr, despite the pain and fatigue caused by his illness, remains hopeful, showing incredible bravery beyond his years. But no child should have to endure such a fight.
“We are doing everything we can to help him, but we need support,” said AbuBakarr’s family. “Without insurance or advanced medical care available here in Sierra Leone, the only option we have is to travel abroad. We are asking for your help in raising these critical funds to give AbuBakarr the chance he deserves to live a full, healthy life.”
The goal of $40,000 will go directly toward the costs of the transplant surgery, travel, lodging, and post-operative care. AbuBakarr’s parents are also concerned about the additional financial strain, as they will need to take time off from work to care for their son during his recovery.
Support for AbuBakarr has been pouring in from family, friends, and even strangers, all of whom are united by the desire to see him live a long and healthy life. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help raise the necessary funds, and every contribution brings them closer to their goal.
“We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has shared our story, prayed for our son, and offered their generosity. Your help means everything to us,” said AbuBakarr’s family.
