A major ruling by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has cleared the path for Alhaji Chief Samuel Sam-Sumana to contest for the flagbearer position of the All People’s Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.

In response to the ruling, APC Acting Chairman, Osman Yansaneh, expressed his support for the decision and reiterated the party’s commitment to unity.

Yansaneh, speaking in a viral social media video with Sam-Sumana at the party office, emphasized that the APC’s strength lies in its cohesion.

“The APC is bigger than any individual,” Yansaneh said. “Sustainable progress can only be achieved through unity, which is the foundation of our success.”

Yansaneh’s remarks follow the PPRC’s ruling, which has paved the way for Sam-Sumana to participate in the APC’s flagbearer race. He called on party members to embrace unity and support Sam-Sumana’s legal right to run.

“We are in a critical phase of rebuilding the APC,” Yansaneh added. “Unity is key to our journey toward victory, and it is time to put the party first.”

Yansaneh also disclosed that the party’s National Advisory Committee (NAC) would soon engage in further consultations to outline the APC’s next steps. He assured supporters that the party remains united in purpose and committed to reclaiming political leadership in Sierra Leone.

PPRC had confirmed that Sam-Sumana met the constitutional requirements to run for the leadership of the APC. The decision follows confirmation of his continuous membership in the party since his reinstatement in 2020.

The PPRC clarified that Sam-Sumana’s membership was validly restored during a National Advisory Committee (NAC) meeting on September 8, 2020, which was held under emergency provisions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NAC, acting as the National Delegates Conference (NDC), unanimously agreed to readmit Sam-Sumana to the APC.

The PPRC’s ruling and Yansaneh’s call for unity come at a crucial time for the APC as the party prepares for the 2023 elections. The decision is expected to play a key role in the APC’s strategy moving forward.
