The Government of Sierra Leone has released statistics on the number of registered divorces recorded in 2025 across the various forms of marriage recognized in the country.
According to official figures, a total of 60 divorces were registered nationwide during the year.
The data show that civil marriages accounted for the highest proportion, representing 35 percent (21 cases) of the total divorces recorded. Christian and Islamic marriages each made up 30 percent (18 cases each), while customary marriages accounted for 5 percent (3 cases).
Divorce refers to the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court or other competent authority, and the reasons for divorce vary depending on individual circumstances.
