The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank), Dr. Walton E. Gilpin, has been honoured with the Banking Leadership & Service Award by the All-Africa Students’ Union (AASU) in recognition of his outstanding leadership in the banking sector and his unwavering commitment to Africa’s socio-economic development.
The prestigious award was presented on January 30, 2026, during AASU’s historic inauguration ceremony held at the Conference Auditorium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra, Ghana.
The event marked the swearing-in of AASU’s new executive leadership for the 2026–2029 mandate period and was held under the theme “Reimagining Africa’s Education Future.”
The ceremony served not only as a transition of leadership within the continental student body but also as a platform to celebrate distinguished African leaders whose work continues to drive progress across the continent. One of the major highlights of the event was the recognition of Dr. Gilpin for his exceptional contribution to banking leadership and financial inclusion.
Presenting the award, AASU commended Dr. Gilpin’s expertise and dedication to expanding access to financial services, noting that his leadership has empowered countless Africans and positively impacted economic growth. The Union also acknowledged his exemplary service and support to AASU’s vision of youth empowerment and development across Africa.
In accepting the honour, Dr. Gilpin expressed gratitude to AASU for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education, financial inclusion, and sustainable development across the continent.
Dr. Gilpin was accompanied to the ceremony by two senior management staff of Rokel Commercial Bank: Henrietta Kargbo, Credit Risk Manager, and Bettie Mason, Customer Experience and Business Development Manager, who represented the Bank at the high-level continental event.
